UP Warriorz Tank to Bottom of WPL 2025 After Gujarat Rout!

Lucknow, March 3, 2025 – The UP Warriorz, led by head coach Jon Lewis, hit rock bottom in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 standings tonight, suffering a humiliating 81-run defeat to the Gujarat Giants at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

With the Warriorz now languishing at the bottom of the table, Lewis’ leadership is under fire as the team’s playoff hopes fade into oblivion.

The nightmare began with Gujarat’s Beth Mooney, who torched UP’s bowlers for an unbeaten 96 off 59 balls, hammering 17 fours.

Alongside Harleen Deol’s 45 off 32, Mooney fueled a punishing 101-run partnership, lifting the Giants to 186/5. Deandra Dottin’s late 17 only deepened the wound.

Lewis’ bowling strategy? It crumbled under the onslaught

When UP took the bat, the collapse was catastrophic—105 all out in 17.1 overs. Gujarat’s Kashvee Gautam and Tanuja Kanwar each snagged three wickets, with Dottin adding two, as the Warriorz sank to 48/6 early on.

Chinelle Henry’s 28 off 14 was a lone spark, but Sophie Ecclestone’s 2/34 couldn’t stop the bleeding. Lewis watched helplessly as his side imploded.

This loss sent the Warriorz tumbling to the bottom, their net run rate in tatters, while Gujarat soared to second.

Fans on X unleashed their fury: “Jon Lewis has no answers!” one tweeted, while another fumed, “Warriorz are a mess—time for a new coach?”

With the season slipping away, all eyes are on Lewis: Can he turn this sinking ship around, or is UP’s WPL 2025 campaign already doomed?
